The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) has established the implementation of a Credit Information Bureau (CI for the CEMAC region.

The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) has established the implementation of a Credit Information Bureau (CI for the CEMAC region.

This new measure is designed to promote better access to bank credit, ensure fair credit pricing, and provide an effective tool to reduce information asymmetry between lenders and borrowers.

In accordance with BEAC Instruction N° 010/2020, which sets out the procedures for obtaining client consent in the context of credit information sharing within the CEMAC region, this requirement applies to all credit institutions, microfinance institutions, and payment institutions.

As a financial institution, your bank must ensure strict compliance with this instruction, which specifically requires that:

All users of credit information must obtain the prior consent of their clients, whether individuals or legal entities, before consulting their credit information with the Credit Information Bureau.
